I love decorating the classroom in February! All the hearts, love, and “feel good” messages are so uplifting! My favorite decorations, of course, are the handmade student crafts. Not only are they adorably cute, but displaying students’ work in your classroom conveys to them that their work is valued and makes the message of the display more meaningful to them. Plus, it makes writing instruction more exciting because it’s part of a fun, hands-on project. In this post, I’m sharing 3 of my favorite Valentine’s Day bulletin board crafts with writing prompts that create darling displays for your classroom, hallway, or door.
Benefits of using bulletin board crafts with writing prompts:
- Builds Writing Skills – Strengthens sentence formation, vocabulary, and handwriting practice.
- Encourages Self-Expression – Helps students share thoughts and creativity meaningfully.
- Increases Engagement – Students are more excited about writing when it’s part of a fun, hands-on project.
- Supports Social-Emotional Learning – Writing about kindness, love, or friendship fosters empathy and emotional awareness.
- Hands-On, Multisensory Learning – Engages different learning styles by combining writing with cutting, coloring, and assembling.
- Creates a Meaningful Display – Student work turns into a beautiful, meaningful bulletin board, hallway, or door display that conveys to students their work is valued.
Hershey Kiss Craft, Our Sweetest Memories Valentine Bulletin Board
I’ve been doing this craft and writing project with my littlest learners for years because it’s simple and creates the sweetest display!
Students tear aluminum foil into small pieces and glue them on a Hershey Kiss cutout.

Next, they glue a Hershey Kiss paper plume to the back of their Hershey Kiss toward the top so that it sticks out.
Then, they write their names on the front of the paper plume for an adorable personalized Hershey Kiss!

Students write and/or draw their sweetest memory from the school year on a writing prompt paper.

Arrange students’ crafts and writing prompts around the title “Our Sweetest Memories” to create a deliciously sweet holiday bulletin board.

Love is in the Air Hot Air Balloon Valentine’s Day Bulletin Board
So, this idea started as a craft to go along with one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, Oh, The Places You’ll Go (you can check it out here). Then, I bought some adorable Valentine’s Day clip art that had a hot air balloon included, inspiration struck – and it sparked this Valentine’s writing activity.
To create a hot air balloon, students spread glue on paper plates and cover their plates with scrunched up pieces of tissue paper.

While their paper plates are drying, students cut out a hot air balloon basket and complete the writing prompt.

Lastly, students glue their baskets to their paper plates using strips of paper.
A fun option is adding student photos to the project to look like the students are in the balloons.
Cut out the students from the photos (cut away the background).
Cut a slit in the balloon bucket, slide the picture in the slit, glue the bottom of the photo to the back of the basket to hold it in place.

Arrange students’ hot air balloon crafts around the title “Love is in the Air” for an uplifting Valentine’s Day display.

Love Bugs Valentine Writing Craft and Bulletin Board
These cute little bugs spread a lot of love and kindness!
To create a love bug, students cut out wings and a body from colored paper and then glue the body to the center of the wings. To make antennas, they cut paper strips, glue them to the back of the head, and then glue on small hearts. They can also glue hearts on the wings for decoration.

Students then write and/or draw how they show love.

Arrange students’ love bugs and writing prompts in the hallway, on your door, or in your classroom along with the title “Little Love Bugs, Big Hearts”.
