Did you know that today, April 3rd, is National Find a Rainbow Day? I thought I would celebrate with a few rainbow activities and book suggestions.
To help students remember the colors of the rainbow with the ROY G BIV acronym, create a Roy G. Biv character! Cut out a large circle for the head. Draw a face on it. Provide strips of paper in all the colors of the rainbow and have students glue them to the head in the correct order. Glue a bow tie to the bottom and have students write his name with the letters corresponding to the matching colors.

Students can create their own rainbows by using watered down paint and real rain or water. First, paint a red arc across the paper, then a yellow arc, a blue arc, and finally another red arc. If it is raining, put the painted paper outside while the paint is still wet. The rain will make the colors run together which creates the colors of the rainbow. If it is not raining, spray the picture lightly with a squirt bottle until the colors mix together to create the colors of the rainbow. This can also be used as a lesson on color mixing.
